2022-2023 Season

Upcoming March/April Performances

The Oakwood Chamber Players are excited to conclude this concert season with a vivacious program to welcome spring back to the midwest. You’ll get to enjoy works by composers you already know and love such as the Quintet in C Major for English horn, violin, cello, and double bass by Michael Hadyn and the Quintet in E flat Major for Piano and Winds by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – a piece which Mozart himself claimed to be “the best thing I have written in my life” in a letter to his father shortly after its premier.

You’ll also hear the lesser-known yet equally gorgeous work Suite en trio, Op. 59 by Mel Bonis, the nom de plume of Mélanie Bonis, a Parisian composer who studied with César Franck as a young woman but whose family forced her to abandon her musical career for a financially advantageous marriage. The most exciting work on the program, however, is Till Eulenspiegel – einmal anders!”, Austrian composer Franz Hasenöhrl’s clever deconstruction of the famous tone poem Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks by Richard Strauss. The title translates to “Till Eulenspiegel – for once, differently!” alluding to the fact that even the most beloved works sometimes get a bit too well-worn and need a refreshing new spin.
